Volleyball co-captain and College of Nursing and Health Sciences student, Cassy Hanneman, '12 will tell you why.

Dear Alumni and Friends,

When I started my search for a college or university with high academic standards and an NCAA Division III volleyball program, I was put in touch with Terry Condon, head coach of the UMass Boston women's team. After an initial conversation with Coach Condon, my father and I traveled to Boston for a tour of the Clark Athletic Center, the rest of the UMass Boston campus, and the university's surrounding neighborhood.

Before long, it was apparent to me and my family that UMass Boston had the academic and athletic resources I was seeking. In late August 2008, I made the move from Colorado to Massachusetts—and I have not regretted the decision for a single moment. When I arrived at UMass Boston to begin my studies, I hadn't even imagined the possibilities that lay ahead of me.

As a freshman I was honored to be named Little East Rookie of the Year, and four years later I ended my UMass Boston volleyball career as co-captain of a team that won the Little East Conference championship.

I will always cherish these memories and the many friends I made along the way, but I know the lessons I learned off the court at UMass Boston will be even more valuable to me later in life. One lesson I learned right away was that I would get out of my UMass Boston experience what I put in— so I put in 110 percent. And now I'm hoping you will, too. I'm asking you to join me as a supporter of UMass Boston Athletics. Our donations will strengthen the university's athletic programs by providing for necessities such as travel, equipment, facilities, and training.

I've seen firsthand how contributions from alumni and friends of UMass Boston have enhanced the experiences of student-athletes here on campus. And each year when I volunteered at the Beacon Athletics Golf Tournament and Hall of Fame Dinner I had the opportunity to hear many of you describe how much you enjoy your involvement with this university.

Please consider making a gift of $100 or more to UMass Boston Athletics today. You may give on-line, make your gift by mail, or call 617.287.5320.

Remember: Your investment today will help provide opportunities for tomorrow's UMass Boston student-athletes.

Sincerely,

Cassy Hanneman, '12
Beacons Volleyball co-captain
