A fading scene-- On Norfolk Southern trackage, Metra South West Service train #823 passes under the only through-truss bridge remaining on CTA's "L" rapid transit system (on the Green Line's Englewood Branch), and by the abandoned 63rd St Station, done away with before the formation of the RTA or Metra, and even before Wabash or N&W passed on its commuter services to the RTA! All that remains are the platform canopies and sealed-off stairways. #823 is the only train of the week that runs only as far as Orland Park/153rd St, and not to 179th or Manhattan, IL.

  • Man! You beat me to it by posting a vid first from here. I've actually stopped here a couple times to check it out but didn't stay that long. Where did you park, the alley

  • I traveled a Chicago and Eastern Illinois train to go to and from Georgia there in the 50s. I believe it was the "Dixie flyer" At one time there was an el station there. You can see remnants of it on the el stucture. It was a busy place in the heyday of passenter trains. It was confusing because there were two "Englewood" stations on 63rd Street, this one at Wallace and the other one at Lasalle Street. Some of the other lines were the Wabash, Lakawana, and Chicago and Western Indiana.

  • Do you know how long this station has been disused? I see this every morning on the SWS and I always wonder about it's history.
