VRCHNI, PRCHNI (Run, Waiter, Run; 1981)

A classical Czech comedy of director Ladislav Smoljak and screenwriter Zdenek Sverak (the author of KOLYA).

Dalibor Vrána is a twice divorced bookseller, whose favourite hobby is to seduce beautiful women. Since he must also pay aliments, his living standard isn't too high and when he once visits a meeting of his former schoolmates, he sees the misery of his life. However, once a drunked guest in a restaurant mistakenly regards him as a waiter and Vrána finds a solution of his joyless situation: to dress himself as a waiter and cash money from guests in restaurants. He has big success and money fall, but I don't have to say that it is a dangerous job with a lot of risks...

One of the best Czech comedies that has ever been filmed. According to the authors, it was allegedly based on a true story. The movie also got an award of the critique and an award for the best screenplay at a humouristic film festival in France. The music of Jaroslav Uhlíř is also worth note.

V závěru filmu byl už ostřílenej a drzej jak vopice, místo aby zdrhnul z Varů, tak ještě zkasíroval všechny hosty. Že mu kapsy stačily...

Just watched it yesterday in European on Screen film festival 2011 in Jakarta (Indonesia). Before the movie begins, Czech Rep. Ambassador really asked us to stay until the end of the movie even we feel sick to the story, humour or old pictures in the middle of movie. Instead moved from the seats, everybody laughed all the time and gave applaus when it finished. I’m not an old movie lover, but I LIKE Vrchni, Prchni! (though still don’t know how to say it :p)

@m9mobile Jestli se nepletu, tak na DVD Sverak rika, ze se pouze inspiroval mylnou zamenou hosta za vrchniho. Na tomto jednoduchem faktu potom postavil cely scenar. Doufam, ze si to pamatuju dobre, ale urcite se tento pribeh nestal a neni to cele podle skutecnosti. Pouze zakladni myslenka tomu dala sanci vzniknout :) A to je sakra dobre, protoze tento film je perla !
