Bella is a two year old pure bred miniature schnauzer, and she is having a "Chinook type seizure." Also known as paroxysmal dyskinesia, deep brain seizure, or psuedo seizure. It is thought that they are caused by uncontrolled electrical activity deeper in the structure of the brain than a "true seizure". She has had at least one grand mal, or tonic-clonic seizure, so we believe that they are related. She didn't have any seizures until she had a head injury when she was about a year old. Now she only gets these type of attacks, and they seem to be triggered by a shock or excitement. This one was triggered from her hitting her head on a door while chasing after her ball. They don't cause her pain, and as you can see, she is still aware of her environment. She only gets them about every four months or so. If she hits her head, we have to watch her closely as she will have one within two minutes. They usually last only a small time, and then she gets up and continues as if nothing happened. Notice how rigid her muscles are, and how her face is twitching, but good ol' Bella, all she wants is her ball.
