Shit... I was sort of joking about the Kenny Rogers thing until I found this... Kenny Rogers : Thymme Jones as Garth Brooks : Chris Gains. Don't let the ELP cover fool ya... He really is Kenny Rogers.
As far as "unclassifiable", the acoustic music at the beggining is in the style known as "fratboy fuckaround". Actually, their record label's press release did a good job of classifying them... They fit in nicely with Kansas (ok, Protokaw) and Grits.

There's no neat resolution, no definitive full stop, because then the audience could stop thinking after the final scene. I know that's what most audiences seem to want these days, but Hisle isn't going to let us off so lightly.
