Its 1989, and we are in the early days of the Cumberland Scenic railroad. We watch the ex-Canadian Pacific G5 4-6-2 Pacific coming threw the Cumberland Narrows. Then working up grade at Helmsteaders Curve. The final clip is off a overhead bridge while the Pacific is working hard uphill to Frostburg. At Frostburg, we watch the locomotive being turned on the turntable for its return trip to Cumberland. The CP G5 (1200-1271) Pacific where built by Montreal Locomotive works from 1944-1947. There where a total of 498 G class locomotives, and the G1 was first built in 1906.

  • where this? they still run her

  • @CGiordano464 This run is out of Cumberland MD to Frostburg MD. They don't run this locomotive anymore, but they do have a good looking ex-LS&I 2-8-0 painted up in Western Maryland. It is a very good likeness of the WM's big 2-8-0's. Thanks for watching. Jack...

  • @1jackdk thanx for info. Will have to tke a trip back east one of these days to get some rides out there.

  • @CGiordano464 Well worth the trip. Take care, Jack...

  • To add to the history of the locomotives, the 1238 and 1286 were both bought by George Hart from the CP directly.. He later sold them to Jack Showalter, who ran them as seen here in Cumberland, as well as a few other locations. Thanks for sharing this!

  • @notalott Thanks for some history on these two good looking CP locomotives. I always liked the look of these Pacifics. Any idea if they are still running? Last I heard, they where in Virginia, after Cumberland Scenic threw him out of there. Thanks for watching. Jack...
