To my ears, a faint reflection of the power, vibrancy, humour and sheer 'attitude' of the original Bessie Smith version.

Sad to see folks have to bring there racism into music.. the ONE place where, Jewish, Italian, Black, Irish, Greek, Asian, Cuban , Brazilian, the list goes on INDIVIDUAL members of the HUMAN RACE etc. have ALL made tremendous contributions, Timi Yuro was Irish and Italian & Dinah Washington thought enough of HER talent for singing to write the Liner notes for one o her Albums & say "She not only SINGS a song she LIVES IT" But, Hey what Did Dinah Washington know YOU'RE the EXPERT on music here!?

Dinah Washington is the most undercelebrated vocalist in recording history. For phrasing, there simply is no one better. What we are viewing here is what is called, "owning a song". Simply divine.

They don't make them like this anymore!!! all she needed was the piano and her voice. Not like all these so called "singers" now that need to put up a show to hide the fact that they can't sing.
