One time duet partner of Marty Robbins, Lee Emerson wrote this sad country ballad. It was first a hit for Porter Wagoner and recently there have been versions by George Strait and Jessi Colter. I think it's a great song which Don Gibson sings with the right touch of loneliness and despair that the lyric demands. No doubt it's Chet Atkins accompanying him, but I stand to be corrected.

  • @papabecool Thanks! Btw, I've scoured the depths of the internet and haven't found a version that's as special as this one. To even compare your father's version to anyone else is a sacrilege.

  • a very nostalgic song.

ilooking back years ago it reminds me of a sweetheart. you know who you are, please forgive me.

  • papabecool, My abject apologies for stating that Rodney Crowell was the author of your father's works.

I love the song, and hats off the the author. I still think Rodney does the best version, next Jessi Coulter.

  • @PicodeGuy YES IT IS ON" GREAT COUNTRY SONGS" DON GIBSON ALBUM GLAD YOU LIKE IT

  • Do you know what album this song is on?

  • Rodney Crowell is the author of this song!! Hear him sing it to really get the feeling. Emmylou Harris has had this in her repritoire for many years.

  • Love this song and love this version by Don Gibson. I would like it even more if I could SEE him singing it and playing his guitar. There are just no real VIDEOS of him performing!

  • i love this song
