Not everyone wants to put a coat over there blazer to be big and bulky, plus this is perfect for a chilly fall day..I do it all the time and it just looks great..

The sweater under a jacket arrived when younger men after the war (WWII) stopped wearing waistcoats like their fathers wore. Most were of the sleeveless variety, and home knitted. A cardigan or knit waistcoat tends to look better under a suit and leaves the sweater for under a more casual sports jacket.

I love v-necks with a sportscoat, but not with a suit. And the fact that it is merino wool does not mean it has ot be thin. It all depends on the weave, but it is usually light weight and often has a lot of natural stretch.

@LifesHardLessons Of course heavier men can wear v-neck sweater under a suit. Why not - it's just to adapt/customize the size of the sweater...
