this is reassuring, My moped had suddenly started sounding like this, all rattly and such, and was REALLY down on power. Now I know what to do!

That is quite good how Americans stick by there home brands. Its good for the economy alot more countries should do it rather than supporting orthers

@Ogreita ; Well i've always owned german Jap cars and in my experience my Italian cars have been just as cheap to run and about 1000x better looking, i am not including fiat though although i would consider an Abarth.
Italian cars anywhere but the USA are cool.......yanks don't like any brand unless it was made in america (blinkered).

Re-attatch the crankcase breather system and bin the mesh boyracer filter from halfords.
Bet it'd run a lot smoother.

backfire thru the intake tells me the timing belts off intake valves stay open too late pushing it all back, im assuming its distributorless ignition

@ericblacklabel84 Timing was spot on mate, one of the spark pugs was cracked and therefore wasn't sparking in the cylinder.

I think it turned out that the ECU was fried. This happened because the cable and earth from the starter motor was not properly connected and the ECU had an electrical spike run through it. Everything else was replaced and checked including fuel pump, injectors, stepper motor, crack sensor, lambda sensor, gaskets, fuel filter and sparks & coil packs. It was defo the ECU. Car is long gone now.

this happened as one of the spark plugs had cracked and broken

Did you try changing the spark plugs and distributor cap as well as the wireset? A bad spark plug could cause misfiring.
Also, just curious if you ever fixed it or not? :)
