Racism In Video Games

Video game creators should be more responsible of the demographics and create more main characters in video games of different races.

I want to make positive changes to the comic book and video game industry from race to womens body issues. For instants, Most of the super heroes are white men or white women. If there are any black super heroes its not that many. Many of these black issues look very stereotypical like theyre suppose to represent the 70's with the women sporting Afros for example, the woman in the amine Cowboy Bebop in the episode Mushroom Samba. Also the black female super heroes in comic books sporting Afros are Bumblebee, Thunder, Heather Hudson, Misty Knight and the ones with braids are Crimson Avenger, Cecilia Reyes, Natasha Irons and the ones who look like Grace Jones are Silhouette, Onyx (bald). Most of these black male and female super heroes not last that long and are quickly forgotten. Im going to proved to you the reason why black woman do not have lead roles. The reason is that most writers and directors that are not black dont have black women in their lives so they cant sympathize with black issues. The only roles black women can have are stereotypical roles like the ghetto black woman or some baby momma. Then you have women in general. The Hulk came in 2008 and it did good in the box office, so did Iron Man and the others super hero movies. Cat woman with Halle Berry and Electra with Jennifer Garner wasnt so good. That is because they were woman and nobody wants to see a woman do a mans job. Expect for Storm from X-Men but she isnt the leader for X-Men, Spawn, and the creator of Spawn is a white man named Todd Mcfarlane. And Black Panther the creator of that super hero is a black man. Black Panther is clearly a black man that looks a lot like Bat-Man but without the bat symbol on his chest and always talking black issues (you can be a black super hero and talk about all issues and not be stuck in the box and just talk about black issues just because youre black).

And not just in comic books or Mangas, theyre also in TV commercials as well (But I know the real reason why they do that to black woman). Now think about that for a minute most black women have straight hair. Barrett Wallace speaks ebonics in the US version of Final Fantasy VII (but Barrett didnt in the Japanese verison). Because white people are ignorant and they think thats how black people speak, not all white people just some. If they took their heads out of their asses and got to know black people they would know that all black people dont speak ebonics. On the other hand thats (ebonics) cool. Black people think speaking that way is cool, its begin street or down. And if black people think its okay to speak in such a fashion, the white man thinks its ok too. Its just like calling black women hoes and bitches. If black men call their women that, then white people think its ok too. And I guess black people dont have a problem with the way Barrett Wallace from Final Fantasy VII speaks, I dont hear anyone complaining about it. Look at all those guys in basketball game, they speak like that, and no one complains because black like that dialect. They dont have a problem with it, so why should the white man? The big lips on black people in animes are deeply troubling like all of the black men in comic book and animes. Take a good hard look at the two black guys in the Street Fighters series Balrog (his real name in Japan is M.Bison, a play off of the boxer Mike Tyson) and Birdie. They have huge lips and big white eyes like if they were portraying a minstrel show. Sean, another black character in the Street Fighter series is the weakest fighter out of all the characters in the Street Fighter series. At the end of Seans ending story in Street Fighter III 3rd Strike, Sean loses the tournament and his face is made to look like some one from the Wm.H.Wests Big Minstrel Jubilee. And for anybody black, white, Asian or Hispanic to make fun of black people is highly offensive.

It's not racism unless they outright mock a race. If a leading character was suddenly made African, would it be racist torwards all the other races?

Its funny how when I look at a game and I see a character on the cover I'm like "Wow! He/she looks bad-ass!" I never look at a character of a game like "Oh cool he/she's white/black/asian/hispanic." This isn't an issue about "race", but of some sense of entitlement to be at the front view. What people need to do is not look at the color of the person, but of what they represent. The majority of people don't care or don't even see the color of the character, we just care if the game is fun or not

Really feel what you're saying here and I can somewhat relate. I am a white female and in any game where you get to pick which gender you are I will always pick the female character first because I feel that I can relate to the character more.

There really needs to be more female black characters in games that are PLAYABLE. We could only think of Sheva from resi 5, Jade in the early MK games (they changed her skin colour) and D'arci from Urban Chaos
