All the hoopla over this "technicality" is bogus. The call was correct according to the rule -- which still exists today. And that's why every runner makes sure to touch every base after a game-winning hit - because of this incident.
And why does no one bring up how low that was of the Giants' pitcher to throw the ball into the stands?
P.S. Look at footage of Bobby Thomson's "Shot Heard 'Round the World." He made sure to touch every base -- and the Dodgers stayed and made sure of it.
