  • In an interview for TV legends, Hugh O'Brian said that James Drury was relatively

inexperienced with staging fight scenes, that he had to learn to react to a punch because, otherwise, the fight appears phoney. Fortunately, this scene comes off well. I wonder how much rehearsal it took and how many takes were required to get to the final product.

  • @sonofderno Mr. O'Brian was incorrect in his assessment of Mr. Drury's skills. Mr. Drury had ample experience in movies and television roles.

  • Great Series! Best Western Ever!

  • The Virginian TV Series is scheduled to be officially released on DVD in the first quarter of year 2010. We're not sure of the date yet...stay tuned!

  • @VictoriaGreenly This fight scene is from the premiere episode (season 1) of The Virginian in 1962. In the Archive Interview (part 5), Hugh O'Brian states that James Drury probably had little, if any, experience in the art of fighting. He acknowledges that Drury became very proficent at it later in his career. O'Brian describes this as the toughest fight of his career, but points out that it came off very well and was even written about in articles.

  • So close to the stream and lake - what a wasted opportunity!

  • The Shelby Cobra Roadster was featured on the "Great Cars" series, which features a bit of filmed footage with James Drury buying one.

  • Victoria, I think they did that frequently (in the first season anyway). The episode where Trampas was accused of Bank Robbery showed it being 1898 (with the robbery having occurred in 1897).

I am very grateful for you having loaded all these.

  • The Exiles episode had a song in it that was not written until 1899 and mentions a telephone.

  • Yes, Season 1 Episode 7, 'Riff-Raff'. This is one of those episodes that the writer strayed from the original time frame.

  • There was an episode when some of the ranch hands, I think Trampas too, signed up for the Spanish American war (1898).
