they meant that the volley he missed was what ended the match, not that he had a chance to win the match with a volley. basically monfils had match point and roddick lost by missing a volley.

blaming "fading" lights huh Roddick on missed volleys and that loss?You miss volleys left and right;during the day and at night when facing players who can return your serve;return better and are faster.The supposed "fading" lights were the same for your opponent as well!
