Ralph McTell is a English singer-songwriter and acoustic guitar player who has been a influential figure on the uk folk scene since the 1960s.
Ralph is best known for the song STREETS OF LONDON
which has now been covered by over 200 artists.
Ralph re-recorded STREETS OF LONDON with bassist Rod Clements and backing vocalists Prelude.
Released as a single late in 1974 it rocketed up the charts to number 2 over the christmas period.
It became a worldwide million-seller and also won Ralph the IVOR NOVELLO AWARD.

  • @TheLizzie12 Such concerts are magic moments to cherish forever. I attended a tribute concert for Henry Mancini at the new Disney Hall in LA in 2004, seated only a few meters behind the orchestra, such a parade of luminaries who had worked with him over 30 years - you'd usually need to purchase a dozen concert tickets to have seen them all. Thanks to wadrs for the post so I, too, can appreciate Ralph McTell. Playlists for every year since 1900 are my tribute to musicians like him. chuck

  • Check out Adelaide Hall's version on You Tube. This grand lady was 87 when she sang it in concert at the Riverside Studios, and encouraged the audience to join in. It was magical (I was there). Mr McTell paid tribute to Adelaide by singing this song at her 90th birthday tribute at the Royal Festival Hall in 1991. It was magical (I was there too!).
