@wolfman49er Well, not necessarily the "proper" way...I play with the flute to the right, but if you ARE lefty, then you can play that way too! I play Boehm flute too, and do not find it particularly hard to blow the wooden flute...harder are the fingering changes. I have a keyless and have to place my fingers in wickedly odd positions (for a silver flute player) to get proper notes. Even a keyed flute would probably not help much as the keys are not the same! Love the Irish flute though!

Thanks for uploading.
Both are incredible musicians. Saw McGoldrick playing with Mark Knopfler last year.
I really respect his patience while Dezi is playing on his own. I'm sure his fingers would be just itching to join in.

@wolfman49er You are correct ...even a good classical player can have problems with the different''blow'' on a wooden instrument .I recently gave a wooden Boehm flute head (thinned) to a trad player and he did not like it either.
I also found this to be the case with a clasical player(professional) of a metal Boehm model.
That seems to be the way it is ....though there are exceptions!

Grand bit of flute playing ...melodius!
that is the proper way to play those traditional irish concert flutes....low whistles also....impossible to play otherwise. I am always amused when my classical flutist friends try to play my concert flute...they can't get a note out of it.
