  • that is the proper way to play those traditional irish concert flutes....low whistles also....impossible to play otherwise. I am always amused when my classical flutist friends try to play my concert flute...they can't get a note out of it.

  • i love michael mcgoldrick! his album 'fused' is excellent!

  • I used to go garden hopping with mike mcgoldrick back when we were kids at st marks school.

  • this is brilliant

  • @wolfman49er Well, not necessarily the "proper" way...I play with the flute to the right, but if you ARE lefty, then you can play that way too! I play Boehm flute too, and do not find it particularly hard to blow the wooden flute...harder are the fingering changes. I have a keyless and have to place my fingers in wickedly odd positions (for a silver flute player) to get proper notes. Even a keyed flute would probably not help much as the keys are not the same! Love the Irish flute though!

  • Thanks for uploading.

Both are incredible musicians. Saw McGoldrick playing with Mark Knopfler last year.

I really respect his patience while Dezi is playing on his own. I'm sure his fingers would be just itching to join in.

  • As good as it gets lads.Nice one!!!M.

  • i know both of these, claim to fame anyone?

  • Rare video quality !

  • @wolfman49er

that's that pipers grip for ya! :)

  • @wolfman49er You are correct ...even a good classical player can have problems with the different''blow'' on a wooden instrument .I recently gave a wooden Boehm flute head (thinned) to a trad player and he did not like it either.

I also found this to be the case with a clasical player(professional) of a metal Boehm model.

That seems to be the way it is ....though there are exceptions!

  • Grand bit of flute playing ...melodius!
