Lovely romantic song from 1947 by singer/pianist Hadda Brooks.

The guitarist on this recording is Teddy Bunn, a superb guitar player who was playing Rock and Roll in the 1930's. Check out more of his recordings at this website http://www.classicjazzguitar.com/albums/artists_albums.jsp?artist=67

Best wishes

  • I believe the guitar player is Al Viola...seems he is mentioned on back of my old album.Went on to play withPage Cavanaugh Trio. Got to see them in Ottawa 10 yrs. ago? Page just died this week.

  • Fairymike, thanks for your input.

According to the insert notes with the CD Blue & Boogie: The Empress Of The Torch Blues OCM CD 026., the musicians at this recording session were

    Tracks #1-9:

Hadda Brooks (p); Jimmy Black (as); Teddy Bunn (g); Elmer "Basie" Day (b); Al "Cake" Wichard (d).

    Los Angeles, 1945-1947.

Nevertheless, this is beautiful music. I hope you enjoy it. I much prefer Hadda Brooks in her ballad mode.

    Best wishes

  • Thank you so much for this! Just beautiful.

  • Wonderful! If anyone has 'Humoresque boogie' by Hadda, would they please post it - Thank you. I have it on a 78, but I don't know how to post.

  • Can it be more romantic?...

  • I can't believe that there's so few postings of Hadda on YT. Her longest film appearance was in the 1947 "Out of the Bue," in which she sang the title song, in a scene in a piano bar with Ann Dvorak.

  • The movie is the 1950 "In a Lonely Place," with Bogart and Gloria Grahame.

  • Hadda Brooks was trained as a classical pianist. I have a copy of the film 'In a Lonely Place' in which she sings 'I had'nt anyone till you'. I consider her the female Nat King Cole. She died in 2002. I would love to see copies of her old T.V show.

  • @gitfiddlejim

movie was called "In a Lonely Place"

  • Such a unique sounding voice.

  • She was the first black woman to host her own TV show
