Cliff Cave Park is aptly named because there is at least one cave there, but it is no longer open to the public after some young people drowned when the cave was flooded during a rainstorm. The park sits on the banks of the Mississippi River. Many such caves, both natural and manmade, dot St. Louis city and county. During the time of the Underground Railroad these caves were used to house the fleeing darkies.
