GPS on a plane works great! At the moment, only some airlines specifically say, no gps units during flight, so I had to try this experiment before they all ban it. It takes about 35 seconds to acquire satellites while holding up to the window, then it works like a champ! Finally you can tell exactly which town you are flying over. I would not recommend having it plot a course though, with all the "recalculating" it will probably crash its OS.

Anyways, from this, I can tell exactly how far we are from the actual take off strip, our max speed during cruise, and that the plane takes off at about 160mph, fascinating!

  • hello I want to know that gps on airoplane is available on iphone4 or samsung galaxy s2

  • The flyer from the southwest safety manual does have the GPS listed as "APPROVED" electronics above 10,000 ft. I will take a picture of it for you guys next time I'm flying.

  • @Homeskillet1991 Thank you homebody for your nice educated reply! Go back to Ida TV production at your High School and learn some more about proper video production techniques.

  • @WarpedTrekker shut up asshole

  • If I were sitting next to you, I would've bopped you on your head to turn the stupid GPS off! What do you not understand about electronic devices onboard a plane, especially during takeoff? Yes I know it is just a receiver, but if everyone else has to comply with devices, you should too.

Hopefully next time the stewards will grab it from you.

  • wicked awesome bud.... im going to try to bring my gps on a flight to the N.W.T. starting in Ottawa. hopefully i will be able to bring it on the plane. Im going to vlog the whole trip so subscribe if you're interested. Itinerary - Ottawa -> Inuvik Inuvik-> Edmonton Edmonton -> Vancouver and back to Ottawa

  • I would show the speedo to my mates and say, I drove a Bugatti Veyron with NoS in it xD

  • oh burnnnnnnnnn, he called you a fetus....hahaha

  • There is absolutely no reason why GPS would be banned on a plane- it does not EMIT any electromagnetic radiation like a mobile phone would do so would not disrupt anything on the plane. Actually I suspect it might be an anti-terrorism precaution making it harder to plan an attack because no passenger would know the exact location of the aircraft.

  • What kind of plane was that? i tried it on a Boeing 737 with a garmin nuvi but i had not any satellite reception. good try.
