GPS on a plane works great! At the moment, only some airlines specifically say, no gps units during flight, so I had to try this experiment before they all ban it. It takes about 35 seconds to acquire satellites while holding up to the window, then it works like a champ! Finally you can tell exactly which town you are flying over. I would not recommend having it plot a course though, with all the "recalculating" it will probably crash its OS.
Anyways, from this, I can tell exactly how far we are from the actual take off strip, our max speed during cruise, and that the plane takes off at about 160mph, fascinating!

The flyer from the southwest safety manual does have the GPS listed as "APPROVED" electronics above 10,000 ft. I will take a picture of it for you guys next time I'm flying.

If I were sitting next to you, I would've bopped you on your head to turn the stupid GPS off! What do you not understand about electronic devices onboard a plane, especially during takeoff? Yes I know it is just a receiver, but if everyone else has to comply with devices, you should too.
Hopefully next time the stewards will grab it from you.

There is absolutely no reason why GPS would be banned on a plane- it does not EMIT any electromagnetic radiation like a mobile phone would do so would not disrupt anything on the plane. Actually I suspect it might be an anti-terrorism precaution making it harder to plan an attack because no passenger would know the exact location of the aircraft.
