Just some information I don't think casual fans know. Again, this isn't a crack at Kenny Bell. Its sad to see a lesser funded, smaller company like 2k took time to get that kind of talent for its game. Then EA sports comes along and tells you not only its not necessary but for some reason those athletes would be unable to replicate themselves?

In animation based game play, why would you ever want anything less than the actual athletes to portray themselves in a game. Not just for the authentic look its going to give you, but the player feedback as well. You think Chris McAllister was going to allow EA to make him look like a fool in coverage, if so you need to read up on Chris.

The argument could be used that legality of a player getting injured could prohibit this now, but to me that's mute. Its apparent, at some point NFL players were more than willing to provide motion capture for NFL games.

The fact of the matter is animations drive both games, the question is which game do you think is more realistic, the one rooted in current and former NFL players or guys that wanted to be NFL players.

  • It's a financial issue.

Why pay NFL pros to provide motion capture when you can just get a random kid to come and do it for a fraction of the cost?

Not saying it's right but there you go.

  • We will never have any idea how much either was paid or what the price difference would be.

If you planned on using Kenny Bell, why bother having the worlds largest Mo-Cap studio, even if it is used for more than Madden.

In buying that studio you cant say money is the issue.

What needs to be questioned is if they have the desire to make a quality game. If you look at the animations as ingredients, what time of final product can you expect using semi pro players as opposed to NFL players.

  • True.

What gets to me though is that in a supposedly free market, a games developer that has shown no desire to provide even an improvement on previous iterations of their games, can purchase an exclusive license which basically grants them a monopoly on all other games in that genre.

  • Your saying that as a consumer, based on your experiences with the game. Countless consumers, myself included, would tend to agree with you.

Problem is that EA is deep into the marketing aspects of this game. Its no coincidence that every year the game has a new "feature" or "technology" added. Thats all advertisers or the NFL want to see, the perception of game advancements and the best product.

In marketing perception is more valuable than the product, EA is a master at the craft.

  • wow ea. wow. get some bum who can't make it on an nfl practice squad to do your animations the wrong way, instead of bringing in the best. thats hilarious

  • Every one should know by now how much EA places in their advertising efforts and working their "hype" machine on an annual basis.....from TV or otherwise. Its a shame that they still continue this practice with little or no regard to improve or change the game itself.

  • thats why this game sucks. a fake stumble instead of a real stumble. or just tell him to slow down. everything should be full speed

  • shouldnt they get people of different heights to do taller and shorter people. they shouldnt have kenny bell doing mocap for a taller randy moss or even the shorter mjd

  • So Kenny gave me these crappy non responsive moves, and running animation. What happened to an hand swipe, aggressive stiff arm, quick shoulder fake, stutter step, hard plant, hard step forward then back, and all around exploding out of your cuts.

  • Please take note of the response to the question @ 6:49 to 7:30 note the point about guys with "lesser skills" emulating PROFESSIONAL players. Since Mr Bell is NOT on a NFL roster he in esse IS one of those "lesser skilled " So EA is presenting a game with NFL players names while hiring non-roster players . Hence a INFERIOR product . For the full video type Eye To Eye :Kenny Bell

  • Ian Cummings has no clue how real football should look and play.. guy is a programmer who is living up his 15 minutes of fame right now

  • awsome video

  • great video!!!

  • Hopefully all of this will be alievated with the new so called "mo cap suit" EA has coming soon or is already hopefully using now. So mats will not be needed on the football studio while recording motion captured scenes. I

  • amen great video

  • EA used to (emphasis on used to) had NFL players (not the superstars) to do mo cap.
