  • As it turned out, I had a twisted bowel. Pretty common. However, 9 inches of it had been dead for some time. They had to do an emergency surgery on me. I spent 8 days in the hospital. i found out later that I could've died in a day or two had I not insisted on going in to the E.R. that night. Wow, I had no idea. Anyway, I'm going for Bariatric Surgery in a few months. This surgeon says this surgery is a piece of cake compared to what I had done previously. Hope so.

  • @thetruth2011FYI It sounds like you got very lucky to have found out the problem when you did. I'm sorry you had to go through that. Your surgeon is probably right. WLS is probably a cake walk compared to what you've been through. I wish you all the best on your weight loss journey.

  • This happened to me last week it was super scary! Basicly my body was dieing slowly.

  • @carrie3024 I'm so sorry. I hope you are on the mend. It is so scary to think about how close of a call it was.

  • can it happen more than once this type of hernia. I had my rny july 28, 2009 and had my hernia surgery June 2010 and just starting having these attacks again. I even had my gallbladder taken out last oct due to it wasn't working anymore just stop working. Been getting this stabbing pain that has me double over randomly but now the last 2 days been bad. yesterday it was at the gym today it was after eating lunch I try holding a pillow against my stomach, lying down and then I try 4 gas x it help

  • @rdavis46 I don't know if it can happen twice. I can tell you other than a very severe (requiring hospitalization) stomach virus I haven't felt pain in my abdomen like I did from the hernia since my repair surgery.

Please, please, PLEASE call your surgeon or go to the nearest ER if the pain occurs again. Don't end up with dead bowel that has to be removed or a severe infection that can be life threatening.

  • @kaisch15atyahoo Both my aunt and my mother's intestines twisted badly. They didn't catch it fast enough with my aunt because the hospital refused to fly her by airplane to another hospital to have the surgery done. My mom only survived all those times because she's had many previous surgeries and the scar tissues from those surgeries saved her life.

  • @kaisch15atyahoo 2004 and 2006, I believe. I'm not completely sure, though. It's the worst thing in the world...to lose someone from something that was supposed to save their lives.

  • @SkirtRockerr I'm sorry to hear this.... When did they get them done? What kinds of issues?

  • I love your videos ~ Check out mine and my exsperince with RNY ~ =)

  • Wow. I had a twisted bowel a few years ago. I started having these pains shortly after I gave birth to my firstborn. Because I was overweight, the doctor just kept telling me I needed to lose weight and eat more fiber. Well, this went on for 15 years. During that time, I had even lost all my weight and was still experiencing excruciating pain on a regular basis. I finally ended up telling my husband I needed to go to the E.R. He didn't think it was all that serious.

  • My aunt died because the bypass. The scar tissue caused her intestines to twist. My mom had it before my aunt did and she's came close to death four times. She couldn't eat. She was SO dehydrated even though she was drinking sooo much water. Her intestines kept twisting and the last time it happen, the doctors actually had to cut out part of her intestines. The only reason she didn't die is because of scar tissue from previous surgery. She deals with a lot of issues now with her stomach.

  • I'm doing much better! :)
