Peak Moment 86: As an organizer in the American Institute of Architects, Chris Stafford has long promoted sustainable design. As a natural builder, he worked with straw bale and clay in Greece and Saudi Arabia. For his Port Townsend home, he considered site, size, materials and energy. The 1500 sq. ft home uses mostly non-toxic materials (and fewer of them), foam insulation, metal roofing, solar hot water for space heating, photovoltaics for electricity, and an innovative rainwater collector for landscape irrigation. • I love watching these, I really would like a few more episodes centralized in Portland.

  • Other Peak Moment programs taped in Portland: #31 The Portland Peak Oil Task Force, #69 Social Effects of Peak Oil, #73 Post Carbon Cities, #76 City Repair. More to come.

  • An inspiring story but I dislike the host,I almost feel like shes condescending or just plain faking the whole time. The architect seems like he could have prepared a little better as well. Sustainable living is a mindset and a conviction not a popularity contest.

  • right right very friendly pay 7k up, cmon i will love have a eco friendly home ask all my eco friends " hey let have eco BBQ this weekend " lolol, so pl low the pirce ty . btw thx for your eco friend video good info

  • good information

  • heres a guy who has researched the possibilities and put it into practice...very interesting....

  • See the Australian Broadcasting Corp. "New Inventors" show for a slew of environmentally friendly concrete/cement, recycling, water saving, energy saving etc. solutions.

They're out there, all we gotta do is start using them!

  • Great vid! I would have preferred a longer tour of the house, inside & out.

Anyone know where I can find videos where they take an existing home and retrofit to make it greener / more sustainable? Thanks!

  • Great new episode as always. It's inspiring to see people being active in the area of green building (or putting any ecological foot forward).

I'm living by a community in Berlin called ufa fabrik. They've done a lot here. Reclaimed water for toilets and landscape, solar panels that feed excess into the grid, community center including a children's school"wonder island", a variety theatre, aikido dojo, etc, etc, I'm hoping to volunteer there.

Looking forward to the next one : )
