Dunhuang is in the Gobi desert in far northwest China a little west of Inner Mongolia. We were observing a few hours east closer to Jiuquan. A search for "map of China" and Dunhuang turns up some good information.

This video could have used a little editing. It is best from :57 to 1:57. The early part of the video was spent looking for shadow bands which never showed up.
