Phill Hartman looks so bad on camera here, i am almost suspecting it is the reason why they had that as a joke in an episode later on. Ore was that before this interview.

I'll admit, this "Smoking" scene drew me to the series. And so wise exhibiting this agressive humor so early in the series. It measured how far the physical comedy would reach. LOL, it kept escalating: exploding ice cream, the Garrelli fights, the jumper, wow!
I prefer this than the cliche jokes & oneliners used in today's sitcoms. They try too hard attempting comedy.
And oddly, there's nothing funny about today's child stars.
