Strategies, common issues and repairs for correcting irregular tire wear on BMW's E53 generation X5.

This is a customers modified 4.8is with the matching optional wheels and high performance tires. Regardless of what model E53 you have, you can be faced with this problem. This fix is a procedure for determining and remedying excessive or irregular tire wear rear tire when all rear joints appear to be in proper spec.

  • how do you call that big arm that you changed please

  • did it fix the problem, did it resolve the tire issue and straighten up the wheels. I got 18000 on a new set of tires. i will replace these joints now before i spend 1400 on rubber, thanks vac.

  • the vehicle in your video obviously had more than it should resulting in bad components.so to all the BMW X5 owners. just because your rear wheels tip in with a slight noticable angle, Does not necessarily mean there is something wrong with it.you can limit the wear by taking out some of the neg, but you will lose some of the handling

  • Good find, thanks for sharing. There are probably thousands of X5's running around with shot balljoints, and their owners (me included up until now!) are just changing the rear tyres, whilst shrugging their shoulders and excepting the excessive wear as a 'design issue'. Again, vacmotors, thanks for sharing!

  • Did replacing the control arms resolve the issue
