It wasn't Sky 1's first ident. This one only came in in 2003, there was an older one, albiet with the same music (but a little quicker)

It really is hideous - I don't think sky ever changed it, they used this for as long as I had sky, which was years... come to think of it, they barely changed the programmes either!!
Still, it is much better than "box" - those idents are terrible.
