A convoy stretching for eight kilometres and consisting of more than one hundred UK, US and Afghan National Army vehicles set off just before the Afghan elections in mid August to resupply coalition bases in northern Helmand.

The 116-vehicle convoy, one of the biggest to ever leave Camp Bastion, was travelling a dangerous 70km to bases in the Sangin Valley via the outskirts of Gereshk and then off-road through open desert.

Captain Gareth Lowe, the Operations Officer for Camp Bastion's Close Support Logistic Regiment, said, "We're going to fight these vehicles through no matter what the enemy throw at us."

  • God bless you all men and women. Only you will ever make a difference in a county haunted by evil. Keep on task and look out for one and other. And come home decorated and with victory under your belts.

    From a true supporter.

  • It another vietnam...NO the difference is that this war affects every man and women on this earth. our children will be affected by this conflict if it is not won. Backing down from terrorist because the media and others say it can not be won? no one in the media ever shows battles won by the coalition just lost.

  • this is why i love the uk!. (us and france and canada !.:) ).

  • @VolParagom well said mate, cant even shoot the fuckers if we see em plating IEDs gotta call it in and get EOD out... politicians don't know shit about winning a war, you have to put the enemy down and make them stay down if you want to win, all we can do is smile and wave unless they shoot first.

  • We can't win unless our fucking politicians let us use our full potential. They limit us to the bare minimum.

  • Damn when are people gonna understand. We are there to stop terrorist that not only are threat to america but also are a threat to whole world. Now, i admit America has made some mistakes in this war and everything altogether but were there to help build a better nation and thats what it is.

  • You know... you're right kinda... we aren't at war, we're policing a group. Difference is Vietnam was a country so it fit the definition of war. See, for us to have a war, it needs to be against a country, not a group. Otherwise we can't declare war (something our politicians must forget). But. Since this isn't a war, who's to say that I should be bound by any of the rules of war? Hell, if I had it my way, my platoon would spend the whole day mutilating bodies to send a message after a firefight

  • Thinking of you bud...x
