On the evening of Saturday 4th July 2009, LMS 'Princess' 4-6-2 number 6201 Princess Elizabeth blasted through Lea Green en route back to Liverpool, with the returning Coast to Coast Express from York and Scarborough. The train, operated by The Railway Touring Company had paused at St Helens Junction (a few miles down the line towards Manchester), and was getting up speed on her way to Rainhill.

  • awesome! I saw her today down south! She ran out of water near or at Swindon, not entirely clear yet 5* and fav'd

  • @itfcsam Thanks!

  • Fantastic footage my friend! 5*

  • Cheers James. Even kettles can be pretty hellfire things.

  • Fantastic location. That bridge frames Lizzie nicely. Got to see the "Scarborough Flyer" (look closely, you will see what I mean) at Mossley on her way up and then at Marsden and Ashton on her way back. A points failure delayed her return though so she came straight through at Marsden instead of stopping.

  • Cheers LMSStainer. 6201 was about ten minutes late leaving St Helens Junction, and was going some. Lea Green is my local station and seemed an ideal choice to film Lizzie. Expect more of the same thing next month, with the Sunday Liverpool to Holyhead 'North Wales Coast' Express workings.
