The information presented at 8:00 are not those of a radio expert. The reason AM signals are bouncing and FM signals are going in to space is the AM stations he is listening to are in HF around 500-1600khz (.5-1.6 mhz) and the FM signals he listens to are in VHF around 88-108 mhz. Not that it's relevant to the video. VHF signals bounce off the atmosphere too but not near as much as HF.
