Australia has celebrated the outstanding achievements of the film and television industries by announcing the winners of the L'Oréal Paris 2007 AFI Awards.

Held over two gala nights on 5th and 6th December at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, the industries' most prestigious awards event was hosted by Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush, and welcomed home from Hollywood a star-studded cast of A-list film and television personalities including Eric Bana, Cate Blanchett, George Miller and Anthony Lapaglia.

Australian director Anthony Maras received his second AFI nomination in 3 years with SPIKE UP - a gritty crime drama starring Marcus Graham and Roy Billing. Maras' previous short film, refugee drama AZADI, was also nominated and went on to receive accolades from festivals the world over. Spike Up was also nominated for Best Short Film in the 2007 Australian Directors Guild Awards and will enjoy its European Premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in January 2008.
