Thank you for posting this version of the Selfish Giant.... I loved it when I was a kid, and even had the record album. Now I can download this and burn it on a disk so that my niece can also fall in love with this story and the songs.
Thankyou so much for this post. I have looked for this wonderful cartoon for a long time but didn't know the proper title. Found it after a lot of guessing. A super tale, the animation and the fantastic music took me straight back to my chilhood. I still filled up at the end of the tale, I remember crying at the end as a child. A great moral story. It really should be shown on tv again:)
@craigalan100 I also saw this wonderful cartoon only once on tv when like you I was about 6. I found it by going through titles like the unfriendly giant etc. I knew I'd found it as soon as I heard the music. I cried at the end then, and I've just sat with tears in my eyes now. A beautiful cartoon, a wonderful story and lovely music.. Happy memories. It should be shown on tv again:)
@lougalou04 I don't remember CBC running them here, It was CTV that ran them in our area (Ottawa). As for why they stopped-it would be too politically correct to air something with a religious overtone these days. The last time I saw all the shows aired was in the late 1980s, early 1990s on Family Channel Canada. I recorded them then but the tape has partially gone bad. Why these haven't been issued on DVD is a shame.
Yup, CBC on Christmas Day & re-runs. Then they stopped, for no obvious reason. Whatcha wanna bet that this flick (with a Little Boy Jesus) would never be seen these days on the national (taxpayered) broadcaster, for fear of offending someone, or a human rights complaint? These were wonderful little films-- and unlike the modern Disneyfied versions (like the Little Mermaid), they tell the actual story... crazy, huh?
@MrStereo10 Im pretty sure I saw it on Global .. always around christmas time .. good times !
