Roxanne Darling of Bare Feet Studios Talks Upcoming Pubcon Paradise Conference

Pubcon video content producer Vanessa Zamora spoke with Bare Feet Studios co-founder Roxanne Darling and discussed the upcoming Pubcon Paradise conference taking place in Honolulu February 14-15, 2012. Darling suggested Pubcon attendees utilize Yelp in order to find suggestions for good local restaurant options. The local food movement and sustainability are really big in Hawaii, according to Darling, especially because the island is so remote. Darling highly recommended a locally-sourced restaurant called Town, whose chef and owner Ed Kenney can be found on Twitter as @edstown.

Sheila Beal and Darling will speak during Pubcon Paradise on the topic of travel and tourism, specifically discussing the recently concluded New Media Artist-in-Residence Program, a travel blogger project consisting of seven bloggers that was highly successful for Lanai, the island on which it was based. Lessons learned from that program can transfer to all businesses that work in the consumer marketplace, in that a mutual two-way collaboration can work well for all parties involved if it's a well thought out, creative plan that utilizes social media in an innovative way, Darling said.

Darling, who started with "Beach Walks With Rox," now wears multiple hats in her every day work life, and discussed time management as a busy Internet professional. Over the holidays time was spent mapping out all work-related responsibilities that included 17 or 18 blocks of things to be accomplished in a week, Darling shared. Clifford Nass, a researcher at Stanford University, has said that our ability to respond to constant interruptions is making us less efficient and more stressed, according to Darling, who said she used to just want to go with the flow and trust that the important things would show up front and center, but now is learning to manage the flow and schedule blocks of time to which she adheres. The brain is able to orient around 15 minute blocks of time without interruption much better, Darling said.
