The topic that I chose to base my video on was consumption. Every day people around the world are consuming products. I thought the best example of a product that many people consume is McDonald's. As the sign out front of the restaurant proudly displays, over ninety-nine million people have consumed their food. To display people consuming the food, I started off my video by displaying the sign out front then moved on to the drive-thru of the restaurant. While filming for only a short amount of time, I was able to witness over forty cars going through the drive-thru. Most cars also had more than one person within each car. Not only were people going through the drive-thru, but also many people were enjoying their meals inside. Based on the amount of people that were in both of these locations it made me think of the amount of garbage that was being produced from these people based on the food that they were consuming.
Since I had this thought the next part of my film focused on the amount of garbage that was being produced. I followed the process from the garbage being picked up in front of my house all the way to the landfill that our garbage is put into after the garbage company picks it up. While I was at the landfill I saw many trucks entering and exiting the dump and many different types of machines being used to move the garbage to different locations. The trucks that are being used in the video display the amount of garbage that comes from the products that people consume. At one point in the video a semi-truck can be seen leaving the location after it had dumped its trash into the landfill. When I saw this semi it made me realize how extreme people's consumption habits have become. The film also displays a brief effect that consumption has on the environment. The land is being polluted by the amount of garbage and also many animals are being harmed because of the amount of garbage. The many seagulls at the landfill display that animals are being harmed by our consumption. They are eating the various products that people have thrown away. This is not healthy for them and it is all based on the amount of products that we have previously consumed. Whether it is McDonald's or any other product that people can consume, it produces effects on the world around us and landfills are the perfect place to realize the depth of people's consumption habits.
