Research data suggests that 85 to 90% of patients are cured of AF following this procedure.

Join surgeons W. Randolph Chitwood Jr., M.D. and Wiley Nifong, M.D., for a demonstration of a CryoMaze procedure from the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University on September 25, 2006, at 5:00 p.m. EDT. The presentation will highlight the use of CryoCath's argon-powered cold probe to create electrical barriers in the upper chamber of the heart. By freezing the atrial tissue for about a minute, electrical activity is permanently blocked. Dr. Chitwood is Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences and Professor and Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery. Dr. Nifong, M.D.; is Assistant Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
