We couldn't figure out what our puppy was barking at (our puppy's name is "Dublin"). Then I see this fuzzy creature walking across our patio like it was his. A quick Internet search taught us that tarantulas in southern California are fairly safe and non-aggressive. After the video was taken I re-located the tarantula to a field and let him go. They eat cockroaches and mice.

  • when i lived in southern california I lived in LA near down town in a place called Highland Park. I never saw any tarantulas there. is it because riverside is more desertish

  • @mexiluvsw Definitely more desert like where I live. We have a very similar climate to Palm Springs - maybe 5 degrees cooler on average. With all the development nearby, we don't see tarantulas anymore. Their habitat has been taken and replaced with tract homes.

  • wow souther california huh its probly in sandiego. I live in south eastern AZ and we gat these all the time but i never kill them because they eat allot of pest grasshoppers and such. i just do what you did when they get in my way, gently re-locate them :) great vid! love the cute furry critter (dog)

  • @mexiluvsw We live about 1 hour north of San Diego and about 30 minutes south of Riverside.

  • There's tarantulas in Cali! Awww. I want to move to Cali so bad when I grow up but I HATE HATE HATE spiders!! D:

  • @DesTay95 Not to worry. California is a huge place with many different climates like mountains, ocean, desert, etc. Tarantulas are not everywhere in California. I was born and raised here and the tarantula in this video was the first time I ever saw one in person. We just happen to live in a desert like location where tarantulas also live. Since this video I've only seen three more.

  • @BlackIce700 Yep...he's been full grown for about 9 years now. I think I get more comments about the dog than I do about the tarantula. 8-)

  • that dog is probably full grown now huh?
