Neckbeard Chronicles: Favorite =/= Best Ever.

Just because something is your favorite, doesn't automatically mean it's the best ever. I, for one, rather enjoyed the Super Mario Bros. movie BECAUSE it was "so bad that it was good." Was it legitimately good? No. Was it the best movie ever? No. It is entirely possible to enjoy shitty things. For example, FF7 fans can enjoy FF7 all they want, but when they make the claim of "DURR HURR, BEST GAME EVERRR," they're kinda shitting on the turf of the REAL best game ever.

Pong, I would say, is a worthy candidate for this title. It is perhaps the most flawless game in all of history. (albeit because of its simplicity) Is it my favorite? No. Not by any means. But I'd be hard-pressed to find any flaws in its programming.

Another game would be Tetris. The game that put puzzle games on the map. Is it my favorite puzzle game? No. I love Tetris, but I'd honestly rather be playing Meteos, Lumines, or Mr. Driller. However, I can't see any flaws within it. Perhaps some of the various ports may have issues. I've heard the Game Boy version, heralded by many as the best version of Tetris, has graphical glitches every now and then, from some people, though this seems more like a problem with the cartridge itself.

Anyway, I've been saying "just because something is your favorite, DOESN'T make it the best thing ever" for years now, and I just wanted to get the statement out there.

@LuXxenatorX Thanks. For the record, I have 407 video games. That's just the ones I own. If we're counting roms and bootleg discs, that's probably another hundred or so. Out of boredom, I tallied up how much they're all worth. Roughly $4,800 (judging by the games' estimated current values) Too bad I'll never sell them, since I'm a collectorfag like that. :/ The only games I'll sell are those I buy and leave sealed, solely to gouge on Ebay later. (example: Fatlus games)

Your point is perfectly valid and I agree completely, but what if your reasoning is that your favorite game is your favorite BECAUSE it is pretty much flawless?For example, DoDonPachi DaiOuJou is my favorite STG because I think it has the highest overall quality out of any I've ever playerd.

I just wanted to point out a case that might be an exception.
