A CIA "video briefing" for President Reagan on the death of Yuri Andropov and the politics of succession as General Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party. Contains early reviews of Mikhail Gorbachev, who eventually took over after Konstantin Chernenko's death one year later. Declassified and released 2 Nov 2011 at the "Ronald Reagan, Intelligence, and the End of the Cold War" symposium at the Reagan Presidential Library. From symposium notes: "This was the first time the Agency used videos on a regular basis to deliver intelligence to the policymaker, and this collection marks the first substantial release of such material in one of [the CIA's] historical collections."
