OIL RIG
Oxidation is loss, reduction is gain, of electrons.
To be honest the way you explained it, reduction is reduction of charge and there for oxidation state prevents me from even having to use OIL RIG.

Oxidation
Is
Loss
Reduction
Is
Gain
Also, I suggest that you call it 1- (negative) or 1+ (positive) instead, because it gets confusing.
