A five minute glimpse of the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love, which recently took place in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. True form, the celebration was free, with many bands from the old days, Canned Heat, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Country Joe MacDonald, Jefferson Starship, Chambers Brothers, to name just a few.

This short video features Country Joe, singing his anthem, "One, Two, Three Four, What Are We Fighting For," and some clips of the crowd from that day. Great weather, great memories, and powerful words. As one speaker pointed out, things are worse today, politically and socially, then they were back then during the resistance to the Viet Nam war.

There is much work left to be done. But this was a day to enjoy the music and each other, to relive that time of passion and compassion, of love, peace, and faith in humanity. Those days, as they were, will never return, but it was obvious to me that day that the love, the faith and the compassion which drove it to the International spotlight remains strong in many hearts, young and old.

And too, so is the strength and resolve to resist the growing despotism of the American Empire.

Thanks for watching brothers and sisters...............

Peace,
Jim Lockhart

  • Always like Joe. It's too bad people are dumb enough equate Marxism with liberty. Such is the path of the ignorant and these neo-organic hypocrites driving around in Priuses that call themselves liberals. Not the hippies I grew up with.

  • @Slovak420 That's not very insightful

  • @tupolev160 thats funny

  • It'd be interesting to see how critical all these independent peace lovin' folks would be towards the Obama administration. They sure are quiet these days especially regarding the injustices of NATO and global government. I sense most of these people forget or don't know what hippie was about before the left wing fanaticism of Abbie & Jerry. Lots of phonies.

  • It looks like a lot of fun. How come I missed this? Darn!

  • @syrensoundz You name it!

  • How about the "Summer of Cheese Tour" .

    Sad........

  • too bad america is a majority of people like this.
