How to hang a mirror
Hello, I'm Randy with R squared renovations. I'm a general contractor in Dallas Texas. Today I'm gonna show you how to hang a mirror.
The first thing I'm going do is decide about how much the mirror weighs, within ten or so pounds. It's about 15 pounds so I'm going to use a screw in drywall anchor you can buy at any home improvement store. They say right on the box how much they are rated for holding what weight.
Generally you have two people or you can have someone tell you exactly how high this mirror wants to be. You can hold it up and get a general spot. I would have my helper put a spot right here where we want to hang it which is in line with the hangers on the back of the mirror.
So here I'm going to mark the mirror at this height for the hangers. I'll get my level off that line. Put a line there and there. If you're doing this on a finished wall you can also put blue masking tape on the wall so any of your pencil marks can be easily removed once you get it laid out.
What you want to do is measure where the hangers are on the back of the mirror. This mirror is 23 and 3/4's. So we already know about where this is going to go. We start with a pencil mark here and come over between 3 and 3/4's and put another mark here. Make a longer level line.
We have our two points where the anchors are going to be fastened. These can be installed with a screw driver. I'm going to use a battery powered screw gun with a phillips on the end. Go to exactly the center of your mark. Go in so your just flush with the sheet rock. You don't want to do it tight because you'll loose the integrity. All the anchors come with the right sized screws when you buy them in a package. I've already checked these and they do fit into the back of these holes.
What we want to do is take our screwdriver or screw gun. Put these in so that there is about a quarter of an inch of the head of the screw sticking out. and the mirror should be ready to hang. And there you have it.

  • Thanks for the video. I would also check to see whether there were studs where I wanted to put the hangers, and if so, just use a screw for that location. Also, you initially marked the edge of the mirror, and then measured 23 3/4 from that point. Don't forget to take into account that the hanging points are inset from the edge of the mirror.

  • Very helpful demonstration. It helped for me to see the video concerning the various types of no-stud wall hangers before I watched this one, as well. Thank you for the video.

  • Would love to hear what you're saying.
