Marvin Gaye (1939--1984)

My opinion: One of worlds greatest soul singers ever. I remember back in 1982, when Sexual Healing was in the charts. This was the first single Gaye released after leaving Motown Records. I love the sound of the drum machine, the Roland TR-808, combined with the sweet voice of Marvin singing this sexy song.

Marvin had a lot of success writing sexual songs and built a reputation as a ladies' man, but he was the son of a preacher and struggled with his religious values. This conflict tormented him for years. In 1981 he went to Ostend in Belguim to recover from his drug problems. He stayed there for 18 months and wrote Sexual Healing.

It's more then 25 years ago, since Marvins dead. What if he is still was here. Maybe he'll still be into the latest technics and developments in soulmusic. Maybe he'll make his tracks using Fruityloops, Reason or Cubase. And maybe he would be collaborating with the new soul generation, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, India Arie, Dwele, Stacy Epps, D'Angelo.....
Wow !!
