After Islamic revolution (1979) when Iranians were engaged in several internal affairs, in 22 September 1980, Iraq suddenly launches several attacks by heavy weapons & MIG fighters against Iranian civilians & military forces and tries to capture the city Khoramshahr but Iranian civilians defend city for 34 days only by some old weapons like M1 & Molotov Cocktail against Iraqi armored forces.
After 575 days of occupation Iran regain the city in Beitolmoghadas operation that was a crushing defeat for Iraqi forces. In this operation 16000 Iraqi forces were killed or injured and 19000 of them surrender to Iranians.
After the operation Saddam executed some Iraqi generals and imprisoned others.
