Just saw this today and really enjoyed it. I will say though that some of the character's decisions ( notably Sayra) kind of baffled me but I still enjoyed it.

i thought it ended perfectly, tied up the lose ends and left off the with the protag

maras originated in L.A

You need to check your facts. the Mara did not originate in Honduras. The gangs name actually tells a lot about its origin. It's a Salvadorian gang that originated in California as young Salvadorians banded together to fight off Mexican and black gangs. once members where deported back to El Salvador, the gang spread and grew to what it's now.
Oh yeah, the movie starts off in Chapas which is in Mexico.

Nice review. The gang portrayed in the movie is "MS13" a gang started in Los Angeles and spread not only across the USA, but into Central America as well. The movie starts in Guatemela and Honduras, where the two stories collide and then follows the journey through Mexico en route to USA.
I agree that the ending was missing something. It needed just a bit more.

do you mean the plane thing??

correction: not the slums of mexico. the movie didnt even take place in mexico until half the movie. it began in the ghettos of Honduras. where the Mara originated

I flinched during a few scenes. I really did feel at the end that they ran out of money or time when shooting the film. The ending felt a bit rushed.

yeah, a little bit. but i still liked the ending...i just wished **SPOILERS** that Sayra saw the thing in Texas that Willy was telling her about and how she said when she sees it, she'll think of him. Maybe that was just excluded cuz of financial reasons though...who knows.
