John Yoo's "Torturer-in-Chief" Theory: He's a KING!

on june 26, 2008, before the house judiciary committee chairman john conyers (i.e., while under oath), john yoo -- the chief architect of the hopelessly-flawed purported "legal analysis" condoning cheney and bush's policies of torture from at least early 2002 through late-2006 -- admitted that he believes the question of whether the executive branch -- the president or vice president -- have the lawful authority to torture someone's child in front of him "depends on why the president or vice president "feels" he needs to do that. . ."

this suggestion, by john yoo, marks a fundamental departure from our chosen form of government -- we are a nation ruled by laws -- not men.

to suggest that either of these men might have the lawful right to torture a child, is to admit that one views our government as no more than an old-world monarchy -- one where the crown's word is the only law -- and is therefore "beyond contestation".

this friday, we will celebrate our independence from that view, mr. yoo -- we won that independence at the price of much spilled blood -- we have, for 220 years, disavowed, often forcefully, that notion of government.

ironic -- john yoo would return us to a system of "lex-regis" -- or literally "the king's law".

It seems that I am the only one speaking up here on Yoo-Tube. If you think someone is a traitor to America because they tortured our sworn enemies for information, then what does that make an al Qaeda torturer when he tortures Americans? Are there different rules for them? War is shitty. Everyone knows that. But when your borders and your freedom hang in the balances, when the blood is at your doorstep, you will undoubtedly find its necessity as torturous to your conscience as I do.

I think our next President will be better than this. Each of Teddy Roosevelt, Ike Eisenhower, Harry Truman (and in a more global sense, Winston Churchill) and JFK and LBJ -- and even Richard Nixon(!) -- WERE BETTER than this:

They DID NOT stoop to torture of our "sworn enemies". Even in war-time. They ALL respected the Geneva Conventions. Cheney and Bush broke the law, here.

BTW, "Necessity" is often the last defense offered by a tyrant. Peace.

Well, first, I think we should probably hang those that have tortured Americans, those who cut off the heads of Americans on the internet, those who spit down the beheaded neck of our own people... and... well, I think we should probably go ahead and create a cue where we prioritize who needs to die. First would be anyone shooting at US, actively trying to kill US, or torturing OUR people. Second would be anyone who watched, helped or profited from it. And third would be traitors who betray US.
