A remix/arrange of the Earthbound Papas song Metal Hypnotized for their contest.
The idea behind the remix was to create a harmonically dense version of the song that would sound totally epic on a live stage. I swapped out the intro for that Synth melody with just a Hammond for backing as a haunting prelude for the big entrance of the drums with layers of guitar leads playing harmonies. There's a bunch of chugging guitars in there too and from there out the format of applying a rich spectrum of harmonies continues throughout the rest of the song.
I've re-recorded the Drums, Synths and Guitars:
The Drums are a set of Roland V-Drums that I hook into Logic and Drumkit From Hell. I used Logics plugins to add compression, EQ and applied a Multipressor to get that really big sounding stadium rock sound.
The synth was a patch I created in Logic using ES2 and is a lot of fun. Originally I had made it for playing some Pink Floyd stuff but gradually over time have tweaked it and its since become my signature Synth lead for anything I record.
The guitar solo used a Jet Flanger to fill out the stereo spectrum adding a bit more texture. I used a Digitech Whammy to pitch glide an octave higher in a couple of places - figured it'd be a nice in-joke given the album is called Octave Theory!
The guitars I used to record were:
PRS Custom 24 - did all the chugging rhythms with this as well as some of the harmonies
PRS 513 - recorded little riff with the odd rhythm during the first verse as well as some harmonies and the Wah rhythm section at the end
Ibanez Jem Y2K DNA - recorded the solo using this, the way the pickups interact with the Whammy pedal is awesome!
Due to the high number of tracks and density of the mix it's definitely recommended to listen with headphones if possible.
