This is an update on THE best news I have received in what feels like a very long time: I no longer have any restrictions on my diet whatsoever!!! As far as food is concerned, anything goes! Of course I have to take things slow and progress into chewing harder foods, but nevertheless it's so good to hear these words. My surgeon says he's amazed at how quickly I'm recovering; it hasn't even been 6 weeks yet and already solid, regular normal everyday foods are a go! :-D I could not be more excited!

  • @inpact

    Now I can!

  • Do you have to have braces on before surgery? I really need to know this because I have an openbite &nd Im supposed to see a ortho surgent to see if I can have the surgery. But I want to get the surgery ASAP cause I hate the way I look. Please tell me if you have to wear braces before surgery, because I dont want to wait a whole damn year to have surgery.

As far as I know yes you do need them before the surgery. One's teeth have to be perfectly aligned so that your new jawline can fit comfortably in its new position. Plus you need the braces so that you can be wired shut after the surgery.

Well for me I felt like my underbite was totally obvious and out there, and I didn't like the way I looked when I'd turn to the side. So for me the thing that kept me going was basically the idea that it was all just temporary and the surgery was going to be bring me a whole new look.

  • Hey :-) I'm 16 now and hav just been told by the orthodontist that I need jaw surgery! I was sooo surprised because I thought they only performed surgery for like MAJOR underbites and mine isn't that noticable in fact it looked a bit like how urs did before. But anyway hav u got any tips for like staying positive cos I can't seem to get my head around the whole idea :-/

The first two days it was hard becasue my nose was kind of plugged up but after that it wasn't so bad. And honestly, the sooner the better. I wouldn't recommend doing it like the week before prom kind of a thing, but definitely might as well get it out of the way now that you have no huge commitments.
