  • Elephants cannot get drunk. They won't eat any of the fruit on the ground, only from the trees, and it doesn't last long enuf to ferment. "An elephant would need to eat fermenting marulas at 400 times their maximum daily intake in order to get trunk and disorderly." (quoted from another website)

  • this is the same footage that the movie "overdrawn at the memory bank" used. in fact, i just watched the mst3k version 10 minutes ago. bizarre.

  • man do i wanna party with them

  • funniest video ive seen all day. granted its 930am still, drunk animals what could be more funny

  • Just fabulous. Had me in stitches. An absolute gem. What month was this shot. Thanks so much. Hic. Cheers. More water with it next time.

  • The fruit contains yeast, the yeast ferments like alcohol therefore making animals wasted

  • I would more likely to believe this story if it was only a few animals who primarily ate off the ground...the chances that the entire safari went on a bender...

  • This is untrue. I eat those fruit all the time and they do not make you drunk. Those in the movie look perfectly ripe and an overly ripe fruit is probably rotten. I have also read and heard that this was rigged and the marula's were injected with alcohol.

  • Wait!!!!! The Wikipedia entry states "In the movie Animals Are Beautiful People by Jamie Uys, released in 1974, some scenes portray elephants, warthogs and monkeys becoming intoxicated from eating fermented marula fruit. Later research showed that these scenes were improbable and, in all probability, staged." What are we going to think!!! Let's do tests!

  • man, they're wasted!
