A 3-minute explanation to why we want to build a Space Elevator - by Alan Chan and the Space Elevator Visualization Group. For more information, see http://www.SpaceElevatorGames.org
@jag9998 More likely we would create the cable from raw material sent in orbit instead of bring a cable up. Probably creating Bucky Ball Molecules or nano tubes of carbon. Much like taking the liquid metal and drawing it to creat wires.
I did a physics report on this and a trip like this would cost about the equivalent of a car. Which is significantly smaller than a launch to space with a rocket. Which costs at least $450,000+ so it's way cheaper and should definitely be considered. It was so much doing this research! I also did this and Lunar Bases as the other half. We have the potential!!
Won't we have to send the cable up in one piece for structural purposes? How much would it weigh? If we make a rocket big enough to put that sucker up then the rest of the stuff (counter balance/GEO station) will probably only take one more launch.
@Chowbizful thousands of years? You are a bit off there mate. basically all you have to do build a puny ground station, a space station, and a 36000km long cable.
great apart from the really REALLY crappy music!!

It would be a great plan and cost effective if it was truly a private vencher. Government ruins innovation.

I think it's a good idea if the world participates with the project and researches
