  • these things are beastly

  • For some great historical drama, Google "Flying Tigers" and read about the American Expeditionary Force that went to China to fly against the Japanese air force before America officially entered WW2.

  • I did a report on them. Wasn't Claire Lee Chennault the leader of the Flying Tigers?

  • Yes he was. He was a true innovator and, interestingly enough, a relative of Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

Flying tigers was great read. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys aircraft of the era.

  • very coooollllllll

  • @5000mahmud In the beginning that was the case but with the introduction of the P-40B and C Class with more armor at the nose and twin fifty cals on the nose they actually when nose to nose with the Mitsubishi Zeroes and the P-40 came out the winner in 99 percent of the cases. When i say nose i mean lets play chicken head to head.

  • The first generation lacked some power and armor, when Pearl Harbor was attacked the P-40B was introduced with better power plant and more armor plate as well as extra 50cals in the nose. The P-40 has stood the test of time that's why i love her.

  • I love the p-40's My dad worked on them in the Aleutians and my High school english teacher was a crew chief with the flying tigers.

  • @bootleggersouth If it wasn't for the Tigers, China would have probably fallen to the Japanese before the Japanese even hit Pearl Harbor. There is a fantastic book (I want to say it was put together by his wife and I can't recall the title), but it's very interesting.

  • @chpman2013 -- adapted from the Auzies...right.

  • @the82spartans actually, it was the RAF when they were using these things in North Africa

  • @barrybolton -- I had heard the Auzie's were the one to first use the Great White shark's grin on a war bird

  • Claire Lee Chennault told his pilots to hit and run not to have a dogfight and that's how the flying tigers got there reputaion
