Does everyone know that "A. P." stands for Alvin Pleasant? Does anyone remember that there was another female involved with Alvin and Sarah? Maybelle!

At the insistance of Ralph Peer, A.P. Carter took old traditonal songs, changed a chord or a verse and then Ralph Peer had it copyrighted for Peer International under A.P.'s name. All Ralph Peer gave a damn about was the money. He had dollar signs for eyes. Looks like things haven't changed in the recording industry since 1927. Bucks am the bottom line. The artists are just toys to be played with.

The story behind the song here is not completely accurate. Sara did not write the song, and she and A.P. were well broken up even before her famous dedication to Coy over the radio. It's more the song that got Sara and Coy together than the one that broke her and A.P. apart. Also, no other source documents A.P. having a mistress, though I suppose it could be true.

What a pleasure to hear genuine un-amplified music sung by true talent! (And with the slim face, high cheekbones, toothiness and healthy good looks, doesn't June Carter look like one of the Kennedy women?)
